The Frank Stella Retrospective at the Whitney Museum of American Art makes a genius of the American painter, two times over. Even if it is controversial now, controversy is not new to Stella, who seems to flourish in a career of carefree bold experimentalism. This provides encouragement to artists who stay within their codified styles due to commercial pressures – Stella should be an inspiration to us all.
